Want to Learn More About Your Faith?

Faith Building Opportunities!

Opportunities abound for learning more about your Catholic faith! Whether you're new to the faith or a cradle Catholic seeking to deepen your understanding, there are a number of ways each week you can do it! Consider attending one of the following classes that take place each week during the catechetical year:

  • SUNDAYS: Adult Education (10:30am) meets in the conference room of the pastoral center
    • Using various video series and small group discussion, the adults of the parish explore the history of the Church, do in-depth study of various books of the Sacred Scriptures, or explore topics of faith and morality relevant to today.
  • MONDAYS: Adult Education (7:00 pm) meets in the conference room of the pastoral center
    • Encore of the topic from Sunday's adult education class for those unable to meet between the Masses.
  • THURSDAYS: Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (7:00 pm) meets in the youth room in the basement of the pastoral center
    • Geared primarily towards those who are exploring the Catholic faith for the first time, the RCIA classes offer an excellent opportunity to learn more about what we as Catholics believe by going back to the fundamentals of our faith. A list of topics for each class can be found here.
  • FRIDAYS: Family Faith Formation (6:00 pm) meets in the social hall of the church
    • Formerly known as the Screaming Baby Bible Study, Family Faith Formation is geared towards individuals with children. Each week they begin with a potluck dinner in the social hall and then move to one of the classrooms of the pastoral center for Scripture or history studies. A baby-sitter is available so that children can attend as well.

Training Opportunities This Week!

Thursday evening from 6:00-8:30 pm we will be offering a training course and referesher for those who wish to serve as Lectors or Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. The training will begin with a potluck/social downstairs in the social hall followed by training for both ministries. New and experienced lectors and EMHC's are encouraged to attend. Lectors will be given their study guides for the coming liturgical year. Even if you did not sign up during the stewardship drive please feel free to attend!

Training for Altar Servers will take place next Saturday and Sunday in the church. Any child who has received First Communion is eligible to be trained to serve at the altar. There will be two opportunities for training. The first will occur on Saturday morning at 10:00 am. The second will be on Sunday monring at 10:15 am (during religious education classes). This is an excellent opportunity, especially for our young men, to offer service to the Church and to discern their vocational call at the same time.

Any questions about training can be directed to the parish office: 488-2595

Learn More About Your Catholic Faith--From Home!

John Paul the Great Catholic University is now offering a FREE 13-session course on the basics of Catholicism. The lessons include an online video, course outline and quiz.

From their website:

Pillars of Catholicism

Marking the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council, Pope Benedict XVI has declared 2012-2013 "The Year of Faith." In particular, the Holy Father is calling upon all Catholics to confront what he identifies as one of the most difficult challenges the Church faces today: "religious illiteracy." That is, a lack of understanding about what Christians really believe.

To address this problem, Pope Benedict has called upon Catholics to spend the year studying the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the official compendium of all Catholic teaching. Pillars of Catholicism is our response to the Holy Father's challenge.

About the Program

Pillars of Catholicism is a crash course in the fundamentals of the Catholic Faith. It consists of 13 episodes, each a half-hour long. A new episode will be unlocked each week and will be permanently accessible. The course and all materials it provides are free.

If you haven't registered your children you still have time to do so, either online or in person. Not sure what class your child should be in? Here's a quick guide:

  • If your child is baptized, and 4 by September 1, register them for them for the grade they are currently in at school (Pre-K thru 5);
  • If your child is in 6th-8th grades, register them for the E.D.G.E.;
