You only celebrate Easter for one day?!?

Did you know that traditionally the Catholic celebration of EASTER lasts eight days long?

For example, in the Mass and in the Liturgy of the Hours (prayers prayed by priests/religious throughout the world) each day in the "octave of Easter" (the eight days of Easter) is celebrated as an extension of Easter Sunday. "Sunday Morning Prayer" is repeated every day for eight days. And the gloria which is normally only said during Sunday Masses and on Solemnities (really big feast days) is sung/recited EACH octave day at Mass.

That's because EASTER IS TOO BIG A CELEBRATION FOR JUST ONE DAY! The mystery is too big to only celebrate it for 24-hours! And, let's be honest, the Church knows that it can take us a while to "get with it" and wants to make sure we have plenty of time to reflect every day on this tremendous gift that we have received in Christ's resurrection.

St Nicholas youth group wants to help you continue your Easter celebrating too. For $5/dozen our teens will sneak into the yard of your choice during the Easter octave and leave a special Easter surprise to be found the next morning. Let's remind our fellow Catholics and our friends that every day is Easter during this Holy Octave!

Download a form here or pick one up at the youth ministry bulletin board in the atrium. Completed order forms can be dropped off at St Nicholas Catholic Church. Or contact Kayla Smith 907.488.2595/ stnicksym@acsalaska.net.

Thank you for supporting our teens' efforts to minimize costs as they prepare for trips to the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana this November & World Youth Day 2019 in Panama!
